MOSOP Condemn Secretariat Invasion, Reject Ledum Mitee's Group
We least expected persons like Ledum Mitee and Owens Wiwa who have at several times shown strong support for the leadership of MOSOP under Mr Fegalo Nsuke to be a part of this invasion on our secretariat.
MOSOP notes that the shame witnessed in today's onslaught on our secretariat is a well planned, premeditated plot. We recall that on November 9, 2020, Owens Wiwa had threatened Mr Nsuke in a telephone call that he will "regret it" after Nsuke insisted that celebrations of the November 10, 1995 hangings should be an Ogoni national celebration and not be reduced to a family affair. Owens Wiwa responded with threats and told Nsuke that he (Owens) will make sure Nsuke "will regret it"
We are stunned by the vicious invasion with armed soldiers this morning masterminded by our own people and commend the youths of Ogoni for taking no action while they were at work..Our pain is that those we thought were our friends turned out to be on the side of our attackers, standing on the side of the Government, the very institution that plotted the murder of our leaders in 1995.
The scene today reminds us of what happened in Giokoo in May 1994 where four (4) highly respected Ogoni chiefs were murdered including Chief Edward Kobani, Albert Badey, Theophilus Orage and Samuel Orage. We commend Ogoni youths for averting the intentions of those who planned today's invasion on our secretariat.
It is indeed regrettable and pitiable that barely three days after the memorial of the 1995 executions and at a time when Ogonis mourn deeply, being reminded of the brutal actions of Shell which led to the killing of an estimated 4,000 persons, those who stand with us have turned themselves into the oppressors.
The actions today reaffirmed Ken Sar-Wiwa's statement when he said:
"The military does not act alone. They are supported by a gaggle of politicians, lawyers, judges, academics and businessmen, all of them hiding under the claim that they are only doing their duty, men and women too afraid to wash their pants of urine. We all stand on trial, my lord, for by our actions we have denigrated our Country and jeopardize the future of our children. As we subscribe to the sub-normal and accept double standards, as we lie and cheat openly, as we protect injustice and oppression, we empty our classrooms, denigrate our hospitals, fill our stomachs with hunger and elect to make ourselves the slaves of those who ascribe to higher standards, pursue the truth, and honour justice, freedom, and hard work. I predict that the scene here will be played and replayed by generations yet unborn. Some have already cast themselves in the role of villains, some are tragic victims, some still have a chance to redeem themselves. The choice is for each individual."
We thank Ogoni youths for demonstrating their true love for peace. Today, the youths of Ogoni proved that they can never be provoked into violence and that is very commendable.
We encourage you to remain peaceful, strong and be encouraged by the determination of the MOSOP leadership to protect your interests.
The Struggle Continues.
