OGONI CLEANUP PROGRAMME: HYPREP AND MOSOP MEET ON PROJECT PROGRESS.

In a significant move to ensure the actualisation of the vision for a sustainable remediation of the Ogoni environment, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has met with leaders of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) at the Project Coordination Office in Port Harcourt.
The meeting afforded parties the opportunity to compare notes and foster collaboration towards an efficient delivery of the Ogoni Cleanup Programme, with a collective position to regularly interface to meeting this target.
Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, Project Coordinator, said the visit was a significant reflection of MOSOP’s continuous interest on the Project, adding that the Federal Government has prioritised the accelerated implementation of the Ogoni Cleanup Programme. This, the PC noted is evident in the Project’s milestone achievements across thematic areas, including Soil and Shoreline remediation, mangrove restoration, provision of potable water, construction of the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER),100-Bed and 43-Bed Ogoni Specialist Hospital and Buan Cottage Hospital, Ogoni Power Project, livelihood restoration among others.
Earlier in their separate speeches, Mr Legborsi Saro Pyagbara, Chief Prince Biira, Engr. Anda Wai-Ogosu, Mr Lazarus Tamana, and Mr Fegalo Nsuke who was represented by Mr Alex Akori, all underscored the need for a robust synergy between HYPREP and MOSOP.
Other chieftains of MOSOP who attended the meeting include, Mr Kammy Ngelale, Mr Bari-ara Kpalap, Mr Gad Nwigbalor. Mr Nyiedah Naasikpo, Mr Stephen Nmaane and Mr Ledogo Amabu, alongside the Director Technical Services, Professor Damian-Paul Aguiyi, Unit Heads and some staff of the Project.
