HYPREP to Train 100 Ogoni Youths in Creative Arts

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has commenced a livelihood training program for 100 Ogoni youths in Creative Arts. 

The training, which is part of HYPREP’s sustainable livelihood programme, aims to equip the youths with high-demand skills in specialized areas.

Representing the Project Coordinator, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, the Director of Technical Services, Professor Damian-Paul Aguiyi, highlighted the strategic partnership with the Theatre Arts Department of the University of Port Harcourt, saying the  partnership is designed to ensure quality training for the trainees.

Professor Zabbey emphasized that the programme is in fulfilment of HYPREP’s promise to provide value addition and high-demand skills for Ogoni youths. 

He noted that the training is expected to empower the youths with skills that can enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the economic development of the region.

He said: “The training marks a significant step in HYPREP’s commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region. By providing Ogoni youths with skills in Creative Arts, HYPREP is investing in their future and equipping them with the tools necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

The Project Coordinator expressed optimism that Ogoni could have an ‘OGONIWOOD’ in the offing, assuring that trainees will be bequeathed the requisite talents that will help them grow in the industry.

Providing the programme and training guidelines, both the Heads of Sustainable Livelihood and Theatre Arts Department, Mrs Josephine Nzidee and Dr Ovunda Ihunwo, respectively, confirmed that the 4 months training would be more practical based, covering areas like Film Production Techniques/Acting, Scriptwriting and Make-up. 

They explained that trainees will be given hands-on industry-based training experience, being tutored by prominent resource persons in the Nigerian movie industry.

Attesting to the transparency of the selection process, beneficiaries commended HYPREP for the training, promising to make the most of the opportunity.

With the commencement of all specialized skills but Mechatronics, which will commence soon, HYPREP is making well its commitment to providing high-demand and specialized skills to Ogoni youths. 

In addition to the Creative Arts training, HYPREP has carried out training for 30 youths in Aviation and commenced Seafaring training for another 100 at the Charkin Maritime Academy.
